Description of evaluation system 
The principal evaluation includes a self-reflection; goal setting; stakeholder surveys from staff, parents, and students; school-wide student growth; and the collection of artifacts. Eighty percent of principal evaluation is based on the principals’ performance on the standards, 15% is based on evidence of student learning, and 5% is based on school-wide student growth based on state summative assessments.

Principal preparation program accreditation or approval standards 
West Virginia has an agreement with CAEP and its standards include: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge; Clinical Partnerships and Practice; Candidate Quality, Recruitment, and Selectivity; and Program Impact; Provider Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
Description of program approval review process 
All preparation programs must be approved by the West Virginia Board of Education before they begin to enroll candidates and if, at any time, there are substantial revisions to the originally WVBE-approved program. The full program review process for accreditation purposes occurs every seven years and includes measures that demonstrate student learning, employer satisfaction, and outcomes such as graduation rates, licensure, and employment; on-site visits; and interviews with faculty and students. Educator preparation programs also report annually on progress of these goals.
