The Principal Performance Standards are: Instructional Leadership; School Climate; Human Resource Management; Organizational Management; Communications and Community Relations; and Professionalism. The Technology Standards for School Administrators are: Leadership and Vision; Learning and Teaching; Productivity and Professional Practice; Support, Management, and Operations; Assessment and Evaluation; and Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues.
Use of standards 
The Principal Performance Standards define expectations for the performance of principal duties and inform formative feedback, professional development. The Technology Standards for School Administrators defines what P-12 administrators should know and be able to do to optimize the effective use of technology.

Description of evaluation system 
The principal evaluation system includes two performance categories: professional practice and student growth. The sources of evidence that inform the standards rating include: Professional Growth Plan & Self-Reflection; Site Visits; VAL-ED 360 Survey; TELL Kentucky Survey; and Products of Practice.

Program reviews are conducted by five members appointed by CAEP and the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board. Required for the program review is in-person visits and document review that includes a program description and a continuous assessment plan.
