Idaho requires that local principal evaluations include an assessment of professional practice for 67% of the total evaluation and measures of student achievement for at least 33% of the total. The assessment of professional practice must include portfolios or input from teachers, students, or parents. The assessment of student achievement must include growth in student achievement as measured by the Idaho state assessment.

All preparation programs in Idaho must meet CAEP standards which include: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge; Clinical Partnerships and Practice; Candidate Quality, Recruitment, and Selectivity; Program Impact; Provider Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
Description of program approval review process
Idaho maintains a partnership with CAEP to conduct concurrent on-site accreditation reviews along with state program approvals. The review includes a site visit during which site visitors fill out a rubric and collect evidence such as conducting interviews with candidates, faculty, student teachers, program completers, and employers; observations; and exhibits.
