Name and overview of standards 
The Florida Principal Leadership Standards are 10 standards grouped within four domains. The domains and their standards are student achievement (student learning results, student learning as a priority), instructional leadership (instructional plan implementation, faculty development, learning environment), organizational leadership (decision making, leadership development, school management, communication), and professional and ethical behavior (professional and ethical behaviors).
Use of standards 
The standards inform professional development and are aligned with school leadership preparation and certification. Local districts must also align their school leader evaluation systems with the standards.

Description of evaluation system 
While locally determined, an evaluation system must include student performance and instructional leadership, each weighted for at least 1/3 of the total evaluation. The assessment of instructional leadership must be aligned with state standards for leaders and include the effectiveness of classroom teachers in the school.

Principal preparation program accreditation or approval standards 
The Florida Initial Program Approval Standards for Educational Leadership Programs have three standards: program candidate and completer quality; field experience; and program effectiveness.

Description of program approval review process 
Programs must demonstrate a partnership with at least one school district and competency-based training aligned to the Florida Principal Leadership Standards and to the personnel evaluation criteria (Section 1012.34, F.S.). The program submits a form to advise Department that a portfolio is being submitted in the next 30 days and an electronic portfolio is then submitted for review and approval. For re-approval, the Department of Education will conduct a site visit to determine evidence of the program's continued implementation of the approval standards.
